Is Tubi Free on FireStick by Amazon Prime?

What is Tubi or Tubi TV anyway? Is it available for free on Amazon Prime Video or Amazon Fire TV Stick? Or do you have to pay extra for it, like an add-on channel of sorts seen in the likes of the Roku Channel Store?

Tubi TV is an ad-supported, legal, and free streaming app. To keep it free and legal, they offer ads and commercials. The company then monetizes the content offered by their partners like Paramount, LionsGate, and MGM. It’s like the Epix Now VOD, but for free!

On that note, is Tubi TV free on firestick? It seems backwards to have people for a free app, unless of course the paid version offers ad-free content. However, if you wanted ad-free paid content, you’d get it from Epix rather than Tubi!

Is Tubi Free on FireStick?

Yes. You can install Tubi free on FireStick with the caveat that it’s full of ads.  It works like YouTube in that it’s ad-supported. It’s like the version of Epix or ePix that’s like YouTube while Epix Now serves as the platform’s version of Netflix VOD (Video-on-Demand.

To install it onto your Amazon Fire TV or Amazon Fire Stick, you should do the following.

  • Access the Home Screen: Go to the home screen of your Fire device. Scroll through then menu and go to the Search option. Type “Tubi” on the box.
  • Download the Tubi App: Once the Tubi app appears, select it under “Apps & Games” and then choose the “Get to Download for Free” option.
  • Other Ways of Searching: You can also find the Tubi TV app through the Apps section’s “Movies & TV” category. Just select it and download it in order to get it.
  • That’s It: That’s all you need to do. Search for Tubi and get the app. It works like YouTube in that you don’t need a subscription in order for it to work.

What is Tubi TV?

Tubi TV by Tubi Inc. is a Hulu-like or YouTube-like streaming service, particularly the versions of them that are free and ad-supported. They’re all free and you don’t need a subscription to get them (even though there’s YouTube Premium and the Hulu paid subscription available too).

It was founded back in April 1, 2014. Its headquarters are located in San Francisco, California. The areas they serve include the United States, Australia, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, and Canada. It used to be independently owned from 2014 to 2020 but became part of Fox Corp in 2020 to present.

What is the History of Tubi TV?

It was founded by Farhad Massoudi and Thomas Ahn Hicks, with Massoudi serving as its CEO. As Fox is its parent company, this means it airs many Fox shows in its lineup too. Its URL is TubiTV.com and it was able to get 51 million monthly active users as of January 1, 2022.

Fox Corporation currently owns the present version of Tubi TV—the over-the-top American content platform with ad-supported programming and movie archive. Launched in April Fool’s Day 2014, its offerings were anything but a joke or prank.

What Does Tubi TV Bring to the Table at Present?

Tubi TV features limited live TV components to boot so that it can provide its users a way of watching live sports and news. It’s one of the top apps for free ad-supported streaming content in 2022 a la YouTube but better.

It caters to quite a big niche, with it reaching 33 million monthly active users in January 2021 and 51 million monthly active users in January 2022 or 18 million more in just a year later.

Can Tubi TV Compete with All the Industry Giants Out There?

The industry giants of streaming include YouTube and Hulu on the ad-supported side and Netflix and Amazon Prime on the subscription side.  Both factions offer VOD or Video-on-Demand services in one form or another, with Tubi TV being one of the smaller or niche services out there.

Nevertheless, it has amassed up to 50+ active users every month with its free price tag and its wealth of content provided by the likes of Epix’s three conglomerates—MGM, Paramount, and LionsGate—on top of Fox or FOX support.

Which Apps and Devices Support Tubi TV?

The Tubi app is compatible with both iOS and Android devices. It can be used with smartphones, tablets, and PCs (via web browsers). Such devices can also broadcast or mirror cast content from the app to a TV. Tubi is available on the following streaming devices:

Tubi TV vs. YouTube

YouTube has been around for longer and probably offers more money to Google in ads compared to Tubi TV. It’s also more well-known. However, what YouTube doesn’t have that Tubi TV has is a library of non-pirated movie content for free.

Any copyrighted content on YouTube that isn’t pirated or just reactions to movies tend to get scrubbed or deleted by YouTube bots care of its Content ID and the anti-piracy law of the DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act). Tubi TV is different.

Tubi TV is Ad-Supported and FOX-Supported

Tubi TV is like Hulu. It has copyrighted content you can watch for free like terrestrial TV but digitally. It’s legal. You also have to deal with loads of commercials, but that’s in exchange of you not paying a dime for the service and the movies featured.

These movies include those by FOX, Paramount, MGM, and so forth. YouTube, in contrast, is a mix between clips from actual shows, YouTuber users and influencers making their DIY content, and PPV movies and TV series you have to pay by credit card or digital cash in order to access.

Tubi also has an easy-to-use tiled interface on top of being free to view like YouTube is currently and Hulu was with its ad support up until it focused more on being Netflix-like instead of YouTube-like.
